Flanges

Weld neck flanges are also known as high-hub flanges, and are often used for critical applications involving high pressures, high temperatures and cyclic loading in pipelines. These flanges are designed with a long tapered neck that transitions smoothly to the pipe by welded connection. The neck or hub provides reinforcement and support to the pipe, reducing stress concentrations and enhancing structural integrity. The flange features a raised face or a ring-type joint facing to provide a sealing surface. These flanges are ideal for Power plants, Petrochemicals and Offshore platforms.

Slip-on flanges feature a bore that slightly exceeds the outer diameter of the connecting pipe, allowing the flange to slide over the pipe end. They are typically secured in place with fillet welds on both the inside and outside of the flange. These flanges have a flat face or a raised face for gasket sealing. Slip-on flanges are widely used in low-pressure and non-critical applications where easy installation and cost-effectiveness are desired, such as water supply systems, HVAC systems, and plumbing.

Socket weld flanges are designed with a socket or recessed area on the inner diameter to accommodate the pipe end. The pipe is inserted into the socket, and fillet welds are applied on the outer side of the flange to secure the connection. Socket weld flanges have a flat face or a raised face for gasket sealing. These flanges are suitable for small-bore, high-pressure piping systems where leak-proof connections are essential, such as oil and gas processing facilities, chemical plants, and power generation plants.

Lap joint flanges consist of two components a flat-faced flange and a stub end. The stub end is welded to the pipe, while the flange slides over the stub end without any welding. The connection is secured with bolts that pass through holes in the flange and lap joint assembly. These flanges are used in applications requiring frequent assembly and disassembly, such as piping systems subject to maintenance or modifications, offshore platforms, and shipbuilding.

Threaded flanges have threads on the inner bore that match the threads on the pipe, allowing for a screw-in connection. They are typically used in low-pressure applications where welding is not feasible or desired. Threaded flanges are commonly found in plumbing systems, small-diameter piping, and low-pressure applications such as water supply lines.

Blind flanges are solid discs with no bore or opening in the centre. They are used to seal the end of a piping system or vessel, preventing the flow of fluid or gas. Blind flanges typically feature raised faces or ring-type joint faces for gasket sealing. These flanges are essential components in piping systems where the closure of an end is required, such as pressure vessels, storage tanks, and pipeline terminations.
